How to set up a flowchart to match your teacher’s requirements

Not everyone gets a handbook: chart requirements are often just said in class — “conditions as a staircase”, “loop as a diamond”, “one End”. Below, each such phrase is translated into a specific rombik switch, with a picture of the chart before and after. Set it up once and every chart of the course comes out the same.

What the teacher said → what to switch on

Open Settings → Structure in the editor. Each switch below changes one part of the chart; the small picture shows how it looks off → on.

“Several conditions — as a staircase: yes goes down, no goes to the side”

Branches → if…elif…else as a staircase

“Draw the for loop with a diamond, not a hexagon”

Loops → for loop without a hexagon

“In do…while, yes goes back to the start of the loop”

Loops → do…while loop — Yes loops back

“One End for the whole chart”

Start and end → Single End for the whole chart

“Functions start with Entry and finish with Exit”

Start and end → Start/End only for main

“A function call is just a rectangle”

Blocks → Call as a regular block

“return is an output”

Blocks → return as a parallelogram

“No types in the blocks”

Blocks → Without type annotations

Words and text in the blocks

“No code in the blocks” / “write it in maths”

Text & captions → Block labels: Math (d = 0, b², √d) or Words (d equals 0).

“Write + and − on the branches” / “Y and N”

Text & captions → branch labels: one click on +/− or your own words.

“Fig. 1 — …” instead of “Figure 1 — …”

Text & captions → caption word and template.

Or start from a preset

A preset sets several switches at once; then fine-tune the rest by hand. The same presets work in the Telegram bot (/preset) and the CLI (--preset).

Defaults

The standard style: the diamonds of a condition chain stand in a column, loops use a hexagon.

Textbook style

A condition chain as a staircase, for and do…while loops as a decision diamond.

Short labels

Y/N, “Fig.”, loops as i = 0..9, no type annotations.

Extended terminators

Entry/Exit for subprograms, one End per chart, return as a parallelogram.

Good to know

✓You see what you changed

Every switch that differs from the default is marked “changed”, and Reset brings the whole structure back.

✓Save it as a profile — share it with the group

Settings → Structure → My profiles: one click saves the setup (one profile is free). The profile link sets up the same chart for everyone in the group.

✓The same style in the bot and the CLI

In the Telegram bot — /preset classic or /preset CODE of your profile; in the CLI — rombik render file.py --preset CODE.

✓Have a handbook after all?

The “Match your guidelines” panel in the editor adjusts the chart to it.

✓Not sure? Ask for a sample

One drawn example from the teacher is enough: compare it with the preview and flip the matching switches.

Set up your chart now

Paste your code, open Settings → Structure and match it to what you were told.
